This 3-4-mile day trip on the Chattahoochee River is the perfect introduction to river kayaking led by certified American Canoe Association kayaking instructors.
Running from Don White Park in Roswell to Azalea Park, this trip explores the gentle flatwater of the Chattahoochee River as it slows behind Morgan Falls Dam and includes a side trip up Big/Vickery Creek. Led by certified American Canoe Association kayaking instructors, this route will help you hone your paddling skills and build confidence on the water. This is the first in a series of trips for beginning/novice paddlers. Detailed logistical instructions for this trip will be e-mailed to all registered participants one to two weeks prior to the event.
Skill Level Required:
This route is suitable for beginners/novices and will include time for paddling/water safety instruction. The route is all flatwater with no shoals or rapids.

Janina Edwards began kayaking in 2020 and fell in love with the sport. Since then, she has paddled more than 1500 miles in waters as diverse as the Florida Everglades, the Chesapeake Bay, the waters around Tybee Island, the Chattahoochee River, the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, the Hiwassee River and more. In 2022, she became an American Canoe Association (ACA) L2 coastal and L2 river kayaking instructor. She also earned her L1 stand up paddleboard and solo canoeing certification, but her first love is kayaking. A former volunteer leader with Outdoor Afro, Janina is particularly interested in sharing kayaking with diverse audiences (BIPOC, but also age and ability diversity). She currently serves on the Georgia Canoe Association (GCA) Board of Directors and the river and coastal kayak discipline committees for ACA. She works closely with Georgia Rivers as a trip leader and kayak instructor; and serves on their advocacy committee and diversity workgroup. In addition to paddling, Janina writes about kayaking, and nature (as well as caregiving and yoga). Her ‘nature’ writing has appeared in NRS Duct Tape Diaries and The National Parks blog. She is currently scribbling a book tentatively titled Wade in the Water: Kayaking my way through Black History.
