This two-day, two-night paddle camping adventure features excursions on headwater streams of the Ocmulgee River–the gentle Yellow River as it flows into this historic mill village of Porterdale and the shoal-filled Alcovy as it winds through Newton County en route to Jackson Lake. The two routes will cover a total distance of about 16 miles. The Yellow features flatwater while the Alcovy features numerous Class I shoals. The event features special activities for “kids of all ages.”

We’ll camp at historic Salem Campground, site of the annual Salem Campmeeting which has been held annually since the 1820s and evening programs will include tours of this historic structures at the campground and programs about this unique institution.  Participants can choose between rooms in the campground’s historic hotel or tent camping. RV sites are also available.

Full weekend registration fees include campsite/accommodations, shuttle and guide services, educational programs, Paddle Georgia swag and decal and river maps. Participants may also choose to join us only for the paddle portion of the weekend by registering for a day trip on the Yellow or a day trip on the Alcovy.
