Tallapoosa River Pedal-Paddle

EVENT DETAILS: Our first bike-paddle adventure of the year visits the Dub Denman Canoe Trail on this West Georgia river near the town that shares the river’s name. Seven miles of cycling Haralson County backroads followed by ten miles of paddling on the intimate Tallapoosa. The map below shows the bicycle route in orange and the paddle route in blue. We’ll begin by dropping our boats at our launch site at the Haralson County Water Authority and then drive vehicles to Lazy River Rentals (our take out site). From there we will pedal back to our launch site and begin the paddle trip. Bicycles will be shuttled by Georgia River Network to the take out site.

Registration Fees: $60 ADULTS/$30 17 & UNDER

Registration fees include shuttle service, river map/guide, liability insurance fees, on-river guide and sag vehicle.

Event Hours: 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Cycling: Our pedal route is on lightly travelled backroads. Participants can travel at their own pace. A sag vehicle will bring up the rear for safety. The 7-mile route takes 30 minutes to a hour and a half to complete.

Paddling: The paddle route is Class I water with mostly flatwater and only minor shoals. It is suitable for novice paddlers. The 10-mile route will take between 3 and 6 hours to complete.

Boat Rentals: Need a boat? We’ve got ’em. Tandem sit in kayaks and solo sit on top kayaks are available. You can reserve your boat when you register.

What if I Don’t Want to Bicycle? Bicycling is not mandatory. You are welcome to participate in the paddle, but you will need to arrange your own shuttle with members of your household or other individuals who you associate with regularly. Remember, the reason we do the bicycle shuttles is to reduce the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus by putting people from different households in vehicles together.

COVID-19 Protocols: All participants must follow social-distancing guidelines. This includes wearing face coverings during times at the launch site, take out site and other locations during the event in which appropriate social distancing is not possible. Additionally, we participants must…

Not share equipment, food, water and other supplies.

Maintain social distancing of 6 feet at all times when not wearing face coverings.

Maintain strict hygiene by washing or disinfecting hands frequently; do not touch eyes, nose, mouth with unwashed hands.

Finally, do not participate if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19, have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or you are feeling ill. Full refunds will be provided.

Once you are registered, complete logistical details will be e-mailed to you prior to the event.
