SUMMARY:Okefenokee-Suwannee River Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Two days and 22 miles from the Okefenokee Swamp to Fargo Along the Suwannee River!\nBeginning at Stephen Foster State Park\, this journey’s first day takes in one of the swamp’s most diverse and varied paddle routes\, from the open water of Billys Lake\, through the densely-wooded (and appropriately named) Suwannee River Narrows and into a savannah-like garden of maidencane and cypress before finally reaching the man-made Suwannee River Sill. Beyond the sill\, the journey continues to historic Griffis Fish Camp\, one of the Okefenokee’s original campgrounds catering to swamp visitors. On the second day of the journey\, we’ll travel another 14 miles\, following the Suwannee River proper as it carves a beautiful path through tupelo and cypress wetlands and upland pine/palmetto forests to Fargo. As with all Okefenokee trips\, wildlife is abundant. Gators\, bears and birds of all varieties are commonly sighted. CLICK HERE for more details about this journey. \nSkill Level Required:\nThis route features all flatwater. It is suitable for all skill levels from beginner to expert. \nRegister\nRegistration fees will be announced mid-summer 2026\, and likely will range from around $200 for youth to $360 for adults. Registration closes Oct. 30 or when full. Registration fees include guide services\, river maps\, shuttle service\, t-shirt or other swag\, boat decal\, six catered meals\, educational programs and camping at Griffis Fish Camp with toilets and showers. Detailed information about meeting times and locations will be e-mailed to all registered participants one to two weeks prior to the event. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER. \nApply for a Scholarship:\nA limited number of scholarships to encourage women\, people of color\, recent immigrants and low-income individuals and families to participate are available.
