Oconee River Pedal-Paddle

EVENT DETAILS: Athens and the Oconee River is our destination on this adventure. This 15-mile bike ride and 11-mile paddle takes us to historic Barnett Shoals and Scull Shoals to explore historic ruins of old mill villages. We’ll begin our adventure by dropping our boats at historic Barnett Shoals Dam, take a tour of the ruins of the mill village that was once powered by the dam, and then drive our vehicles to our take out site in the Oconee National Forest. From there we will cycle back to Barnett Shoals to begin our paddle. Along the paddle route, we’ll stop to see the the ghost town of Scull Shoals, a 19th century mill village where ruins of the mill buildings remain. Georgia River Network will shuttle bicycles to our take out site.
