TRIP DETAILS: This 11-mile bike and 8-mile paddle takes us to Middle Georgia for a celebration of the Ocmulgee’s wildest game: wild hogs. The journey will coincide with Abbeville’s Ocmulgee Wild Hog Festival. We’ll begin by dropping our boats at Ochise Landing in Dodge County, and then drive our vehicles to Half Moon Landing. From there, we’ll cycle back to Ochise Landing to begin the paddle. Bicycles will be shuttled by Georgia River Network to Half Moon Landing.

Cycling: Our pedal route runs for a short distance along U.S. 280, a relatively heavily travelled road, and then follows a lightly travelled state highway. The last 0.4 mile is on improved dirt road. Participants can travel at their own pace. A sag vehicle will bring up the rear for safety. The 11.4-mile route takes 45 minutes to 2 hours to complete.
Paddling: The paddle route is Class I water with mostly flatwater with one surprising, but minor shoal. It is suitable for novice paddlers. The 7.8-mile route will take between 3 and 5 hours to complete. We’ll have the option of paddling a short distance upstream from our launch site to visit a blue hole spring run.
Boat Rentals: Need a boat? We’ve got ’em. Tandem sit in kayaks and solo sit on top kayaks are available. You can reserve your boat when you register.
Ocmulgee Wild Hog Festival: Our paddle trip coincides with the Ocmulgee Wild Hog Festival in Abbeville which runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Lions Park. At the festival, you can view wild hogs captured from the Ocmulgee River swamps, watch the hog dog baying contest and the kid’s pig chase. Food and arts and crafts exhibits as well. What if I Don’t Want to Bicycle? Bicycling is not mandatory. You are welcome to participate in the paddle, but you will need to arrange your own shuttle with members of your household or other individuals who you associate with regularly.
